Mecgale specializes in complete line of bottom ash handling systems. Bottom ash, from boiler can be conveyed, by using either dry system through dense phase pneumatic conveying, or wet system utilizing scrapper conveyor and water impounded hopper. Conveying system is designed after conducting in-depth study of the plant and client’s requirements.

Dry bottom ash from the after cooler of boiler is collected in the water-cooled surge hopper. Ashcon placed underneath the surge hoppers, conveys the material. Ashcon is designed to convey abrasive and irregular sized material at temperature even up-to 450 °C. For Clinker ash, Clinker grinder breaks larger lumps into small size and continues to deposit ash and broken clinker into the Ashcon for further conveying. Bottom ash is transported at low velocity through enclosed pipeline to storage silo, thus reducing pipeline erosion. This system does not require water, thereby negates all water related difficulty and problems.

In wet type, ash from the boiler bottom is conveyed by means of combination of Scrapper conveyor. Jet pumping system and slurry pump. This type of hopper is known as Water Impounded Hopper, which maintains positive sealing of the boiler. After a predetermined time, discharge gate opens allowing hot ash to fall on the scraper conveyor and with the help of jetting nozzle quenched ash is further conveyed to the slurry sump. Finally Slurry pump conveys bottom ash to its final destination.
